The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

problem with Lan2Lan tunnel using 2 Cisco 3005, via PIX 525/515E

Asked by nealgs in Network Software Firewalls, Cisco PIX Firewall, Enterprise Firewalls

Tags: lan2lan, 525, interface, ping, pix

Our remote office is moving premises next week (30/31 May) and i've been given the task to get them connected to our head office.

There is a 2mb ADSL circuit at the new office which is being linked to HO via a VPN tunnel.  The tunnel is created between 2 Cisco 3005s which inturn connect thru a PIX 525 (HO) and a PIX 515E (New Location).

The tunnel is up and i can ping from the HO to a PC on the inside network, and from NewLocation to HO internal lans, but I can't telnet to the Inside interface on the 515E at the new office (weird), so at the moment i'm VPNing to the concentrator at the new location and VNC onto a PC there, then using telnet from it to the firewall.

What am I missing that prevents me from telneting to the inside interface.

I've configured telnet for ip's thru the tunnel etc but no luck.  If I try to ping the inside interface (192.168.52.1) with debug on, nothing arrives yet if i ping a PC on the inside (192.168.52.2) the ping is seen on the PIX.

If it's any easier with a diagram, i've got a jpg image that will help - don't think you can post them on here?

UPDATE....
I'm trying to do a TFTP from the Newlocation PIX to a machine at HO (192.168.8.241), which i can ping from the firewall, but the TFTP fails with a timeout error even though HO pix has a nat/access-list rule :

nat (inside) 0 access-list 101
access-list 101 permit ip 192.168.8.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.52.0 255.255.255.0

am i misunderstanding what this does?.  192.168.52.0 is the inside network at the Newlocation and is accessed via the vpn tunnel, I don't want the addresses NATted, hence the nat (inside) command

Also, i'm unable to VNC to PC's inside, which i'm unsure as to why, althought using debug on the PIX, i can see the VNC requests entering etc

It's definately a rule problem, but i'm not completely understanding their application etc yet

can anyone assist with this please.

many thanks
Gary
