ISA 2000 - what does VPN remote wizard actually change ?

I have a problem with the ISA Server VPN wizards, for which I have another question open.

(briefly: I get a message saying "Bad Data" whenever I try to use the .vpc file in the Remote VPN wizard, and can't go any further)

However, if it is not possible to identify and fix the Wizard problem, what are the changes that the Wizard actually makes  ? If I know what it does, I can set up the connection manually if I have to.
