Yep, you can turn it into a router if you just stop the Check Point Services and enable IP Forwarding but that's it.

I've gotten a second hand Nokia IP71 firewall and used to use one years ago at a place I worked.
At the place I used to work we configured it with SecuRemote (the Check Point client software) but I had nothing to do with the licences etc.
Basically, what I'm looking to do is simply use the hardware as a firewall so I can utilise the 8 public IPs I have (I have reasons for not using NAT) still keep a degree of security. I don't need VPN.
Is there any way I can use the hardware and configure it without any checkpoint licences?

You can probably get it to route etc. but you won't be able to NAT or firewall.
