Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. how to disable all my firewalls?

I'm having serious problems with AOL and AIM. Someone in my city said disable all your firewalls. I said, I do not know if I have any. Then he said well, if YOU did not configure them you may not have any so firewalls is not your AIM issue.

However, doesn't XP give me a firewall? Would my internet provider give me one?
How do I locate all my firewalls and disable them, or see if they are already disabled?
