The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Win XP memory error & sound error - Virus??

Asked by d_bowe in Networking Security Vulnerabilities

Hi,

I installed a dodgie copy of VB 6 visual studios a few weeks back. I started experiencing a few problems so I unnstalled it. However a few problems are persisting. I was hoping it might ring a bell with of few of you and you might be able to help me remidy the problem.

I'm running on Windows XP SP2

1) Every time I start the PC I get 2 errors:

   a) The instruction at '0x745f2780' referenced memory at '0x00000000' . The memory could not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on cancel to debug the program

   b) Generic Host process for Win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close.
       >Debug
       >Send Error Report
       >Don't send

2) The task bar also loses its classic Windows XP blue colour for 1 or 2 seconds after these errors are displayed and then returns to normal.

3) Finally, I'm using a laptop and occasionally the sounds does not work. Its very ad hoc. normally the solution is to restart and it will work, but its very erratic. Sometimes its after I leave the laptop idle for a while and return, or if I close the lid of the laptop when its not in use with out choosing shut down, or hibernate etc.

That's the gist of my problem. If you need me to carry out any tests or procedures to diagnose the problem some more, please don't hesitate to ask. It would nice to have it fixed for Christmas!

Thanks for your time and help
