The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Suspicious outgoing network traffic

Asked by pascal_p in Networking Security Vulnerabilities, Windows NT Networking, Network Software Firewalls

Hi,
I am net admin in a relatively small site (30 nodes). Our company has 5 sites, 4 of them interconnected with VPNs, my site is amongst them. I have access to a web app that provides network traffic info and stats. I was checking it out and noticed February 2008 total traffic (donwload nad upload) was double the monthly regular total. I noticed the following:
14 gigs of steady outgoing traffic from friday Feb 22nd at 17:00 to Monday 25th at 08:00. That's 514 kbits/sec of outgoing traffic steady for 63 hours. I can tell the steady part from the graph I get from the data. Also, we're on DSL, so max of 800 Kbits upload (in theory).
No data seems to be missing.
No one has admin rights on machines.

I woukld just like to get ideas as to where I should investigate. So far, I have:
- called ISP to have logs of router. No logs there since router was rebooted 2 days ago.
- checked domain controller and workstation logs for that period.
- checked firewall logs for that period on all connected sites.
- run scans on all machines (have NOD32).

Thanks for your suggestions.
