GoToAssist is provided by Citrix, not the 'GoToMyPC people'.
GoToAssist requires the remote user to accept the incoming application, permit it to install, and only then does a uaser at the other end gain access to the machine. GTA does permit file transfers.
A typical GTA installation will require the support provider to generate a specific URL with an embedded code, and send that to the remote user. They then click on the link, and the support provider can choose to attach remotely and view the screen, send files, or chat with the user in a window. These URLsgenerally expire in 10 minutes, though this is probably configurable.
It is not spyware, and Citrix makes a point of the most important (to me) features: The application disappears completely from the PC, and the session must be initiated by the remote user accepting the app and permitting the session.
We are trialing ti here, and so far so good. But it is not spyware.
I'm reading reports that URL Assistant is bundled with Dell PCs and is known to be 'Dell crapware' and difficult to uninstall.

I can't comment on URL Assistant, but GoToAssist is a real program. It is made by the GoToMyPC folks and is used to allow someone to make a remote connection on a PC for troubleshooting. The remote user needs to request help from a "help desk" that is running the other end of the product. It should only be there is someone installed it for this purpose. You can find out more about this program at www,gotoassist.com.
I did a quick Google and it appears that the URL Assistant might be some bloatware installed on Dell PCs...suppose it might also come with others.
