Question

crack Using Ip Address

Asked by: Showkatdar

Dear,
At my home, we have a lan and i know the ip address of each device in that lan. Now i m trying to hack those Pcs using this IP Address. Is it Possible. I tried to share their drive using net use command  but it is prompting for username and password, which i unfortunately dont know.
Second i tried One Security Explorer tool to do the same, but it too after connecting prompts for user name and password.
Is there any tool which i can use to grab their sam file and know their username and password remotely.
Is there anyway to enter in their pc remotely.
i know the ipaddresses, and yes they are pinging aswell.
Windows Xp SP2 and Windows Vista are there. and i m using Vista aswell to do this all.
Is there any way out. If yes then please let me know.
Thank you and Regards

I find it a little strange that you're trying to hack into your own home PCs....

Any rational behind that?

by: ShowkatdarPosted on 2009-01-04 at 03:10:47ID: 23289270

Those are home pcs but the thing is that i want to know the levels of security risks.

by: Kelvin_KingPosted on 2009-01-04 at 03:13:56ID: 23289286

With just an IP address, it's not possible to hack into the PC.

Assuming that the PC's are updated with the latest patches.

by: ShowkatdarPosted on 2009-01-04 at 04:26:47ID: 23289465

So what else we need to know? How come...?
Please if u can guide me in this regard
Thankyou and Regards

Well, first you'll need to know if there's any vulnerability to gain access into the PC in the first place.

If you just trying to test the security level of your PC, then I suggest try to do a vulnerability scan first.

http://www.saintcorporation.com/products/vulnerability_scan/saint/saint_scanner.html
http://www.nessus.org/products/

They are avaliable for a trial download, and will allow you scan a few IP addresses.
Something like that will be able to do a very broad based first cut to test if there is even any security vulnerabilities in your network. Rather than trying to grab the SAM file, which I think is not possible any way.

Hope that helps
- Kelvin

Actually, you should start off with this:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/cc184924.aspx

It's a free network security assessment tool from Microsoft. Since all your PCs are windows based, this will be able to give you a quite assessment if they are secure or not.

Free and can be used also for a quick security test.

You don't know the user-id and password for one of your own home computers?   Seems kinda fishy to me.

If the pcs allows null sessions, try this:

Use ENUM (http://www.darkridge.com/~jpr5/code.html) to get admin users
>enum -G [target ip]

Now you have the groups and the members. Focus on the members of the administrator group

Now, you can try a dictionary attack to any of the administrators account. First get a dictionary word file, then try this:
>enum -D -u [user] -f [wordfile] [target ip]

It's a compress file you can decompress with Winzip (or WinRAR, whatever..). Be sure you disable your antivirus protection first or it will maybe erase the enum.exe file.

What is going on here.  Some replies are...interesting.

1.)  Netbus is a RAT.  If you don't have access to the pc to be able to upload a file, netbus will not help you.  It's also well known and your anti-virus will probably go crazy on it.

2.)  Just because a computer and it's services is fully patched does NOT mean it's not possible to hack it.  Otherwise there would be no such thing as a 0-day.  Also, you have configuration problems, logical networking problems, internal problems, and etc. that might not have anything to do with services and patches.

3.)  Nessus is one of the best automated security scanners on the market to this date.  It, however, does tend to show a bit of false positives.  If you can't read the output, though, you can ask the question on EE and someone will be able to describe Nessus's assesment for you in more detail and explanation.

4.)  Vista, be default, requires you to provide a username/password over a netbios session.  It is also disabled by default (same on XP SP2), but some other Windows services that you may use (or other third party applications) could turn the service on and you wouldn't even realize it.

5.)  You can grab the backup SAM file, but not the SAM you want because it is in use while the OS is running.  So it will be locked down by the OS, in a way.

6.)  juanc_ore provided a good tool for assessing netbios information on the remote target.

7.)  If these are not your computers, you will be caught.  Automated vulnerability scanners are for your own network for a reason.  They raise any and all possible flags on any security software on the remote target.

Dear all,
I have gone through all your comments. Really i m really thankful to you all for giving such wonderful tips.  But though seems tough discussion.
Well regarding enum, i tried it, but it is showing Access denied
Even i cant copy this file from one location to another. My Anti virus is disabled as well.
Any special thing i have to do.
Please if any suggestion do let me know.
Thank you and Regards

Turn on file/print sharing on the remote computers.  Remember, Vista will ask for username/password so you will not be able to establish a null session over that OS.
