Hi,

1) Download & Run CCleaner to wipe any related temp/junk files:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download

2) Start Windows in safe mode and run a full virus scan

3) Download & run Hijackthis (http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html). Please submit the log file here to analyze it.

4) Download & run GMER (rootkit scanner) from (http://www2.gmer.net/gmer.zip)

Start GMER, select all options on the right side, after scanning is finished, click on save. Attach the log file here

Hi geriatricgeek,

A couple of things to try, go into Safe Mode and try doing a system restore, you have to have system restore enabled. Try running your anti-malware tools in Safe Mode. Another thing to try is take the hard drive out the computer and put it into another computer as slave and run your anti-malware tools that way. A really good product to use to remove the system security virus is PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus. http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor-antivirus/

Try using the following:

     1. SUPERAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/

     2. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

     3. Combofix
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Don't run Combofix in Safe Mode.

MalwareBytes should get rid of it, if not then run combofix as already suggested and show us the logfile.

You need to rename MalwareBytes or Combofix before actually downloading them, rename before saving to your desktop as some nastes stops it from running., sometimes you need to rename mbam.exe after installation as well.

For the disabled task manager and other disabled utilities etc, you can run FixPolicies or the "VARestorelolipies.inf"

1.  You can download this zipfile, extract it, then rightclick on the "VArestorepolicies.inf" and select Install.
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/tools/VArestorepolicies.zip

2. Or, FixPolicies.exe.
Please download FixPolicies.exe by Bill Castner and save it to your desktop.
http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/BillCastner/FixPolicies.exe
Double click on FixPolicies.exe to run it.
Click on Install. It will create a folder named FixPolicies on your desktop.
Open the FixPolicies folder.
Double click on Fix_policies.cmd to run it. Command Prompt will open and close quickly; this is normal.

I would uninstall Alot Toolbar.

Run hijackthis again(scan only) and fix these entries: Close all browsers and other windows except Hijackthis and click "Fix checked".

Your Hijackthis log also shows signs of a file infector, so it's a good idea to also run these: If it's a virut file infector then the safest option is to reformat.
