These solutions helped me where to look, but it took me some registry digging before I found the source of the problem. It seems that it was some sort of spyware.

Windows keeps on looking for the file svohost.exe during startup. I've searched everywhere (registry keys, startup folder, msconfig) in an attempt to tell Windows not to search the file, but no entries exist. My antivirus detected this file as a virus, but I think there are still remnants of it remaining in my system. I need help in removing this from my system. Thanks.
