Windows XP password screen saver inconsistant
Hello,
I need to have the windows screen saver activate with a login screen after 10 minutes on Windows XP SP2. I know how to go in the display settings and set the sceen saver to 10 minutes and on resume use password. This has proven to be unreliable on this machine. We set it to 10 minutes and walk away for 30 and come back and we still see the desktop. Is there a more reliable way to have the machine lock itself after a period of inactivity?
I am assigning a lot of points as this is important to me.

What I do not want to do is have them exit their software. I would like everything that is open to say open. Just have the password screen come up after 10 minutes

so why not the screensaver is working..... i mean is it not working only when you put a password or not all coming up ??

The sceen saver does not come up all the time. Even when no programs are running.

If you don't want to use the many screen, desktop, pc lock programmes that are available for less you can allways do it by hand.
Windows XP has a shortcut that will automatically lock your computer: Click the Windows key (the flying window key at the bottom of the key board and the L key . This will bring up your login screen and lock your computer down.
1. To log back in, type Ctrl+Alt+Delete if necessary, and type in your user ID and password .
Good luck!

Doing it manually sort of defeats the purpose of someone getting called away from their desk and not remembering to lock it.

No just make sure that it is on a mouse pad that is not the reflective
I'd of tried a ball mouse or something first... but a new mousepad may help, although they can get gummed up too, just don't let the glittery "stripper dust" get on your mouse pad... well strippers at work should be limited anyway ;)

Additional tip, to instantly lock the machine, use Windows key + L, this is the shortcut key for "Switch Users"
