How do you get rid of AVG Free 2011!!!!!!

Lord! What is it about free software people don't understand! I keep getting people in the door that are infected. My preference is combofix but it will not run with AVG installed. I un-installed AVG but combofix still thinks it is there. I ran AVG's own un-install to but combofix still thinks it is there!

I was beginning to think combofix (the world's greatest gift BTW) was getting flakey until I looked at the Security Center warning down by the clock. "AVG FIrewall is not on" "AVG virus definitions are outdated". OMG! I un-installed it in Control Panel. I ran AVG's own un-install tool and it is still there somewhere!

How do you eradicated this total piece of #$@# from a computer? Even AVG's un-install tool won't do it! What a horrid, horrid little company with a horrid, horrid piece of junk software!!!!!!!

lookup into registry, find and delete all references to AVG.
Also check with Process Explorer for dll/etc. that could be ran by some AVG exe, folders, etc.

Also I found this on the Internet (but I never tested it, so I don't know if it is secure, be careful)

I forgot... imho Avira is the best free AV at this time

Removing all reference to AVG in the registry is not only not an option but not doable. That will do more harm then good. The link you posted was like following a maze. It didn't really point to anything specfic or downloadable with reference to getting rid of AVG. DO you have a more specfic link to exactly what you were refering to?
AVG is actually very good product, but yes Combo Fix will not run with AVG installed. You may have installed AVG's PC Tuneup which is a separate uninstall. The other thing you can do is disable the AVG Services and then run the combo fix
This "little problem" did not just occure with AVG 2011. I have seen it as far back as version 8.5 It is like the plague. Once you put AVG on the only way to truely get it of is death (format the hard drive). I really don't want to get in to rating of virus software. I simply want to eradicate AVG from this computer. Threads are all over the internet about the problem but I can find any that truely poing to getting rid of it.

Yes this particulay customer not only put on AVG Free 2011 but also there free PC Tune Up. I need to get rid of them both. Completely. There own un-install program doesn't do it which in turn doesn't say much for them as a company. Need to get rid of it...
Have you try PC DeCrapifier?
Here is a link to the AVG Uninstaller utilities  http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
I don't know why you are having so much trouble removing AVG. First of all, it won't uninstall if it is running, so you have to close it if the AVG icon appears in the Notification Zone at the bottom right of the monitor: rignt-click the AVG icon and select Exit.

Then click on Start -> All Programs -> AVG 2011 -> Uninstall AVG.

You can also go here for more instructions (including a video): To completely uninstall the AVG application from your computer

Then you restart the computer and check to see if AVG is still running.

I switched from AVG free edition to Norton 360 on my two computers (Vista 32bit and 64 bit) and never encountered this type of problem.

I am going to have to revert back to the original question and point out a couple things:

1) I un-installed AVG using add/remove programs.
2) I ran AVG's own uninstaller

Even after doing both those things:
" looked at the Security Center warning down by the clock. "AVG FIrewall is not on" "AVG virus definitions are outdated". OMG! I un-installed it in Control Panel. I ran AVG's own un-install tool and it is still there somewhere!"

I don't know why I am having so much trouble either. I guess if it were easy and worked as advertised I wouldn't have posted on EE. All I can tell you is that Googling this problems brings up a ton of hits. Hundreds with the same problem but no resolution :)
Can't you post a list of all of your current running proccesses?

In the 'Old Dog, Old Tricks' department, make sure you have deleted any AVG-related folders from your HDD, then run the "registry" function in www.ccleaner.com - I have personally used this method to remove stubborn installations of all kinds, with no adverse results.
If ComboFix sees an AVG folder then it will still complain so deleting the AVG folder is necessary.

ComboFix also looks for an entry in the WMI so if the entry is present there then CF will not like it.
You can check and remove its entry following the steps in this article.
Can't Install an Antivirus - Windows Security Center still detects previous AV:

" looked at the Security Center warning down by the clock. "AVG FIrewall is not on" "AVG virus definitions are outdated". OMG! I un-installed it in Control Panel. I ran AVG's own un-install tool and it is still there somewhere!"

Read my article, AVG's entry is still listed in the WMI namespace, remove it and that's it.

Below is one more application remover for AVG (only if RPG's solution fails though I believe it would not), this from Sun Belt Software who have created Viper and GFI.

SSharma,

Have you actually used the download you posted?  It appears to be a utility designed to be used specifically with VIPRE Enterprise av.  It actually instructs you to download the AVG uninstaller from the Grisoft site:

"...1. Find your Admin Actions folder.
2. Download the AVG Remover program from http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools into the Admin Actions folder you found in step 1.
3. Right-click the downloaded file and select "Properties". Select the "General" tab in the Properties dialog. If there is a "Security" section near the bottom of the dialog, underneath the Attributes section, click the "Unblock" button. Click "OK" to apply the change and close the dialog. Repeat this for the other file if you downloaded both.
4. Restart the VIPRE Enterprise service.
5. Deploy the Vipre Agent as usual, and the AVG remover will get pushed to the workstations during deployment..."

Surely it would be simpler to just download the uninstaller (step 2) as suggested by youngrmy above.
"Even AVG's un-install tool won't do it!"

It is my understanding that the author already used AVG's uninstaller, yet ComboFix is still flagging it.

And that is because ComboFix will complain if:
1.  There is an AVG folder left behind - so deleting AVG folder in Program files and App Data will fix that.
2.  There is still an entry of AV in the WMI namespace - so deleting that entry will do it (steps in my article)

It sounds like a simple issue that needs a simple solution, unless of course I'm wrong.
Agreed.  I was not suggesting the AVG uninstaller again.  I was seeking clarification from another expert on the contents of a link that he posted.
jimbecher,

The answer you have accepted is a link which advises you to download the AVG Uninstaller from AVG's site.  In your original question you stated that you had already done this.  Then youngrmy posted a link to the AVG uninstaller.

How did the link in the answer you accepted enable you to get rid of AVG?
"I was beginning to think combofix (the world's greatest gift BTW) was getting flakey until I looked at the Security Center warning down by the clock. "AVG FIrewall is not on" "AVG virus definitions are outdated". OMG! I un-installed it in Control Panel. I ran AVG's own un-install tool and it is still there somewhere!"

My article works in this case, and it has been proven many times before not just here at EE but in other forums..... but of course asker/experts would say I am biased.
The Asker who's also an expert chose to pick an answer which doesn't make much sense because he already used the tool...points passing? holding a grudge against another expert? WOT.

1) Delete / No Refund

Hats off to phototropic for not letting asker/expert get away with anything, :) I think he deserves the points.
The original question here was essentially the following:

"How do you uninstall AVG sufficiently to let Combofix run?"

The accepted answer is a link to a tool designed to push Vipre Business Premium av out through a corporate network.

What is required in order for the question to be closed appropriately is either:

1)  The asker to explain how this answer solved his problem; or
2)  SSharma to explain how his link could solve the asker's problem;

In the absense of either of these responses, it seems clear that the actual solution to the asker's problem is contained in rpggamergirl's article here:

https://www.experts-exchange.com/A_2088.html

If this question is going to be included in the kb for future askers to search, then her post at ID: 36038532 should be the accepted answer.

I agree that the Asker and SSharma need to return and help resolve this.

I can't figure out why this (http:#a36040085) was even posted, much less accepted as a solution.
If points are to be awarded then award, http:#a36036112
