Symentec Endpoint Protection 12.1.4 installation problem

Six identical Windows 7 Pro 64-bit desktop computers.

Five loaded everything perfectly but with number 6 SEP 12.1.4 fails to install with an error msg:

"The wizard was interrupted before the Symantec Endpoint Protection Client could be completely installed" and then rolls back.

The event log gives an 11708 error, MSIinstaller failed

I can see suggestions of removing and reinstalling the LUSETUP.EXE and then running setup again but can't find the file.

Also, even if I an logged in as admin, do I still need to promote to Run as Admin?

You could use a rapid search indexer called Search Everything - http://www.voidtools.com/ - to locate the file (once the index is built, it's got instant search capabilities)

As for run as admin while logged in as administrator, yes, you should 'run as admin' when launching installers. In most cases it will work regardless, but due to windows security, sometimes issues can arise.
What you need to do on this particular machine is run a manual install of SEP.  From the SEP console you can create a setup file and save it to a disk (network shared folder or flash drive, or something like that), and then go to the machine and do a manual install. And yes, you would need to log on to the workstation with local admin permissions AND use "run as administrator" on the setup.exe.  As you create the setup file, you need to follow the procedure carefully so that you designate the correct policies, etc., that should be applied to the workstation. You would run the "Install protection to client computers" wizard as usual, choose your options, but when you get to the page where you choose the installation method, you would select "Save Package" instead of "Remote Push."

Thank you both, could be we were not "running as admin" - ok on others.

Hypercat - server not arrived yet, so all are unmanaged manual setups.
Oh, I see. Well, then, since you're already doing manual setup, the "run as administrator" will probably resolve your issue.  With Windows 7 Pro, and particularly with 64-bit OS's, we've found that if you're running an .EXE setup file, you need to log on with local admin permissions and also use the "run as administrator" option to be sure that everything works.
Also, I forgot to mention that a restart of the computer would be in order.  Symantec installs often have a problem if the "restart required" tag in the registry is on, and a failed Symantec install can leave this tag on even though a restart is not really required.
OK hypercat we've tried run as admin, but same problem.

Do you have a path for the restart tag? And the key setting.

Where do we find CleanWipe? Would this help?
Yes, CleanWipe may help.  The last I heard you have to contact Symantec support to get this tool.

The restart tag that is known to cause issues with SEP installs is shown in this article:

Thanks hypercat, I've downloaded the CleanWipe and all the other tools.

I'll check out your link in a moment, but a couple of threads with the same error msg but relating to the previous version 11.0, it tells you to remove and reinstall lusetup.exe and then run setup.exe as admin, but we cannot find the LUSETUP.EXE file anywhere?
Hypercat, checked the link, but we don't see any mention of that.

What we keep getting is on the attached screenshot.

Would it be worth ammending the registry?

Check the workstation event log and see what the error message there shows - hopefully there will be a bit more detail in the log.
BTW, LUSetup.exe is not available any more through the installation media.  I'm not even sure it's used per se on versions 12 and later.
Only relevant event log entry is 11708 error, MSIinstaller failed

Thanks for update on lusetup.exe.

I've found a more relevant article - what do you think? http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/installation-endpoint-protection-121-mp1-ru1-fails This is a first time installation on a new pc.

Thanks hypercat, I have downloaded the CleanWipe from the Symantec fileconnect./

Will try that first thing in the morning, UK time.

Do you think CleanWipe will make a difference with it being a brand new installation?

Thanks hypercat, will try this shorty. Very busy day and haven't had a chance to do it properly just yet, but will let you know as soon as it's done.
If for some reason CleanWipe doesn't do the job you'll have to manually delete all Symantec entries from the registry.  There are a lot, so I hope CleanWipe works.
