Filemaker Pro 11 Mac can't open remote on Filemaker Pro 5 Server
Filemaker 5.5 would connect to a FMP 5 server when the computer was running Leopard.
I had to upgrade the computer to Lion. FMP 5.5 wouldn't run anymore, so I downloaded the demo of FMP 11. This version can't connect to the office's FMP 5 server.
I don't know if the 11 is incompatible with 5.5, or if there is another protocol that I need to connect with.
Does anyone know if an earlier version of FMP will run under lion and will connect?
Thanks.

Is there a version of FileMaker Pro that will run under Lion and connect to FMS 5.5 ?
The client is reluctant to upgrade. They are concerned that their databases will not convert properly.

FileMaker Server 11 and FileMaker Server 11 Advanced support FileMaker Pro 10/Pro 10 Advanced and FileMaker Pro 9/Pro 9 Advanced databases. While FileMaker Pro 8.x/Pro 8.x Advanced and FileMaker Pro 7/Developer 7 have the same file format as later versions of FileMaker Pro, they are not supported by FileMaker Server 11 and FileMaker Server 11 Advanced due to product obsolescence.
Databases hosted by FileMaker Server 11 will only support the features specific to the client version. For example, FileMaker Pro 10 databases will not support FileMaker Charts, even if hosted by FileMaker Server 11.
Just FYI, depending on the structure of your database, you may wish to do some conversion cleanup and consolidation of your database in order to get the most out of it and develop it further going forward. I've posted an EE article on this process at: http://rdsrc.us/8dDUsT
