Ultra 320 SCSI for Windows 2012 R2
I am in the process of setting up a new HP Proliant DL360p G8 server two HP Ultra 320 SCSI cards, running Windows 2012 R2 that will host Backup Exec 2014. The two HP SC11Xe Ultra320 Single Channel/ PCIe x4 SCSI Host Bus Adapter (sku - 412911-B21) of course would not install.
My disk storage is supposed to be my HP MSA 20, and tape will be HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1840 LTo4, both are Ultra 320 SCSI.
In someones infinite wisdom, someone has removed SCSI support from Windows 2012 R2. I have talked to HP and Adaptec and both concur that they do not have drives in the image. HP says that card will only work with Windows 2008. Adaptec indicated that one of theirs (Adaptec 29320LPE ) might work with a download of the driver ADPU320.SYS. However a search of their support site and Microsoft's support site only turned up a drive for Windows 2003.
Sorry for being long winded, but other than using Windows 2008 R2 for an OS does anyone know of anything else I can do to connect to my storage and tape, and use Windows 2012 R2?
Looks like eventually I need to replace my storage and tape, however that is not in my budget for 14/15.

I did, it is already up and running except the SCSI. I have been attending the Windows 2012 classes 20410 and 20411, 20412 in December. It is an awesome OS, but I think W2k8 is what I will end up with, just thinking somone has gone through this and figured it out already.

Did you try windows 7 driver ?
I have read from Adaptec it should work under 2012 with Windows 7 / windows 2008 R2 driver. The 2008 R2 is not available but the Win7 driver is.

I will check it out. Not sure mine was made by Adpatec, it is an HP SC11Xe Ultra320 Single Channel/ PCIe x4 SCSI Host Bus Adapter. Windows 2012 & Windows 8.1 are pretty similar.

Me too, was not excited about reverting to 2008.
First note for anyone who stumbles on this; the SC11Xe is definitely a badged LSI 20320 so Adaptec Win 7 drivers will not help!
Secondly although this is a "not bad" solution, the driver is an LSI driver dated 3rd June 2008, however 2008R2 has a Microsoft signed driver with a later date than the LSI driver so I would think it better to use that one, particularly if you've had the adapters working reliably under 2008R2.
The driver can be found on any 2008R2 system at:-
Windows\system32\DriverSto

Microsoft version 1.28.3.67 signed 14 July 2009
There may be some issue of copyright or support so use at own risk. An alternative solution would be to do a minimum install of 2008R2 and then immediately upgrade to 2012R2.
Hope this helps someone else. Anyone who uses tape knows that tape drives have a long utility life and don't just replace on the same sort of cycle as server hardware or disk. My tape drive is on it's third server move and would cost more to replace with a SAS version than the server it's moving to.

I have now investigated further. The HP SC11Xe product brief states that Windows 2012 is supported. Both Windows 8 and Windows 2012 have an inbuilt driver which is more up to date than the LSI driver listed above; however you cant just copy the files as there is not an individual security catalog. It is possible to do an install of 2012 and then upgrade to 2012R2 and the driver will stay in place.

Thanks for the update P-Milligan. Although a little late for me since I have Backup Exec 15 running on this server.
I think it would be wiser to stick with windows 2008 since it's one of the most used server version at the moment and still supported. Are you sure you want to bother with 2012 ?
