Does Nvidia Quadro NVS 280 SD support Shader Model 1.1

Does this card support shader model 1.1 and if so, where do i get shader model 1.1 or is it built into the application needing it of the graphics card?

Trying to run some games that required me to update to direct x 8.0 (i went to 9.0C) and still get errors.  Software forum says it's prob due to not having shader model 1.1

Any help appreciated.  I'm even thinking of getting a new video card with more memory but know i don't have many choices out their for an agp 2.0 slot and a small form factor card

Unfortunately, the Nvidia NVS series doe not support Pixel Shader.  Please see:

You might be able to emulate it with GL software (like what comes in DOOM and similar games.

Software emulation won't work :(

To be honest the Optiplex isn't really geared up for gaming but if you want to upgrade you could go fo a low profile nVidia GeForce 6200 which has support for Pixel Shader 3.0 in DX9.

You can get them new for around $50

Depends also on what games you are thinking about as there is only so much improvement you can make to Dell's corporate budget desktops.

this machine was handed down to my son.  We just bought Orange Box and 3 games don't work (Team Fortress 2, portal and half life 2 episode 2.  Do you think this card will do the tric?

will any card like XFX GeForce 6200A - graphics adapter - GF 6200A - 256 MB do the trick.  Am I looking for the GF 6200 mainly and it being an Nvidia card is not necessary.

any ideas of a decent cheap gaming machine where i can salvage the 2 -1gig chips from the optiplex?
What is the Service Tag number? (And your budget?)
It depends on what case the gx 620 is in. If its the small form factor or small desktop(both will only accept low-profile cards) then a new machine will be needed and unfortunately older ddr wont work, newer systems will use ddr2 or ddr3. If its the mini-tower then you can get a better video card like the 2600xt for $160 or a 2600pro for $130. These may require a PSU upgrade the mini-tower only comes with a 250w psu, but dell has underrated psu's check the rail amps located on the side of the power supply and post them and we'll know if the psu will need upgraded. If your not sure what case you have this shows the differences in the cases.

SInce you got the PC as a freebie, you might want to sell the 2-1gb chips on ebay (or even the whole unit) and look for a replacement gamer's system.  Prices are pretty good right now and you will make out a lot better with a newer system,  With the Opriplex you will always be saying things like 'Why is the game so choppy"  and "Why does this game lokck up every time at this point" and other frustrating things.
