Im hoping someone may be able to give me some advice on Access 2007 as I have come across a bit of a dilemma.
We currently have an Access 2003 ADP which links to a SQL Server 7 database. To give you some idea of the application size the database is 10GB, the Access ADP is currently 20MB and contains approximately 260 forms, 260 reports and 40 class modules. The application is used across about 50 users who run the Access 2003 runtime.
I moved to Access 2003 (from Access 2000) about 6 months ago, however, since then I have started having problems with the file. For example, each time I compact and repair, the application seems to grow at which time I then run into problems of corruption across various forms or modules. I have tried creating a new ADP and importing everything into it which tends to reduce the file from 30MB to about 10MB and is usually an okay short term fix.
With the new version of Access 2007 Im hoping that these will solve my problems but Im not confident that this will be the case. I have opened the file in Access 2007 and when working on the file it seems to crash at various times but Im unable to link it to anything specific. I had read somewhere that Access 2007 doesnt natively support ADPs? Im not sure what this means but upgrading our database is not an option at this stage.
Im wondering if I would be better off persisting with Access 2003? Although its causing issues, I may be able to get around these by breaking the application up into smaller projects, if size is indeed the problem.
Does anyone know of problems with Access 2007 working with SQL 7 or willing to shed some expertise in my dilemma.
Thanks in advance.
