The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Upsizing an Access 2003 Database

Asked by NO_CARRIER in Access Architecture/Design, Microsoft Access Database, MS SQL Server

Tags: , ,

I have a pretty fancy Access 2003 Database that I've created, with all those fancy forms, reports, and what have you.... then I learn about the user limitation of the Access backend.  Apparently Access is notorious for developing corrupted databases in a multi-user environment.  Unfortunately around here they want to deploy the program on over 40 user's desktops.  In which case they will all have read/write privelages.

I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.  I need to make this database more secure against corruption, and allow it to handle a large volume of users.  Chances are the database may hit the 2GB limit in a few years as well.  I don't want to re-write every form and query and all the code in another application just yet, so what are my options?

I've researched a little about upsizing to MS SQL Server.  What is involved in doing this, and what will my limitations be?  (Will I still have a maximum-user issue?), also what will I have to change in my program code for this to happen?

And very important... do I actually need to purchase/use MS-SQL Server to convert the tables, and use them through access?  If I do, then will a single license be okay just on my computer?.. or do I also need SQL Server set up on everyone's desktops...

Sorry for my newbie questions, but I've never even heard of microsoft sql server until now. :|
