The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

re-set ODBC SQLServer tables links for front end Access 2003 or 2007

Asked by LukeB in Access Architecture/Design, Microsoft Access Database, Access Coding/Macros

hello

We have an Access 2003 back end db with a Access 2003 frontend. We will be moving the Access 2003 BE to SQLServer. I intend on resetting the table links in the Access2003 FE from the Access 2003 BE to ODBC links to the SQLServer. (for now anyway, maybe ADO calls later, but this is the first step)

The SQLServer is at a Site and that Site will replicate its data to a Head Office SQLServer. The two offices are connnected with a sat link that is busy, so the I want the user interface at site to use the Site SQLServer and the user interface at Head Office to use the HO SQLServer. It is more critical that SIte has the 'master' and does not matter too much if the HO is out of date by a half day or day. What matters is access speed.

My question is how can I re-set the ODBC table links for users depending on location? I was intending on having the startup dialoge ask them "which office are you in?" and then have the FE point to whichever approriate SQLServer. I know how to in code reset table links to a BE Access db, and could do with ODBC table links, but it seems with ODBC this could be faster by simply changing something like a registry setting or a DSN file change? What would be even better is not to have to ask the user, just someway to figure out where they are and choose the closes SQLServer BE source.

Side question : The FE will soon be converted to Access 2007 so the solution has to work for both Acc2003 and Acc2007Start Free Trial
