The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Combo box update event does not "fire" after changing combo box value with vba

Asked by rodneygray in Access Forms

I have an checkout form for an Item. The user can enter an item number to select an item. Once they select an item, the "after update" function fires and the "item inactive" field in the item master table is change to true. If they change the number I determine the oldvalue of the field by using comboItemSelected.oldvalue function. I re-activate the old value and make the new value inactive by using SQL statements. This works great.
However, if they do not know the item number, they can doubleclick on the item field and an item lookup form appears. On this form only active items are dispayed. Thus, the item they just selected will NOT be displayed. Also, on this form I allow the user to enter a search term such as "chair". Now they will only see items that have the word "chair" in the description. When the user doubleclicks the item they wish to select, I save the value in a public variable. The lookup form closes and the item selction form now has the focus again. Code continues in the Item Selection form. If a value is in the public variable, I replace the value in the combo box with the public variable value. All of this works great. The problem is that the update function does not run. Thus, the code does not re-activate a value that was replaced (if the user double clicked on a record that already had a value in the item field) and it does not de-activate the value that was selected from the lookup form. I have set breakpoints and the update event simply does not happen if I change the combo box value using code. Start Free Trial
