Before Update prevent duplicate and go to occurance

I am dealing with patient accounts being denied by insurance companies.  When the denials of payments come in they are entered in a form by account number (Account# - a long integer - 9 digits) for that patients specific stay (account#) that is being denied.  When there is already a denial input (an Account# from a previous letter or fax of denial of that particular service) I want the program to tell me that the Account# was already input and then go to that previous occurrence of the Account#.
