FIndfirst creates error 3251

I have tried both   FindFirst and Seek  to perform what should be a pretty simple task but continue to get errors on any attempt.  
I want the user to key in a phone number in a subform and then after update of the field search table phone to make sure the number exists and then pull in 6 fields from the phone table to the subform which is a list of all phones assigned to an employee.  This last attempt produced error 3251.  on the line
rst.findfirst strcriteria
