The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Test for empty field not working

Asked by richardbarlow in Access Forms

In a form with a number of input fields there are 3 fields that are required every time.

I'm using this:

If IsNull (Me.Field1.Value + Me.Field2.Value + Me.Field3.Value) Then
MsgBox "Blah Blah Blah"
GoTo Exit_btnSave_Click:

That works fine.

Sometimes, this form is populated by copying another record from a different form, as a template. In that other form I grab the value of the required fileds into strings like this:

Dim stField1 as String
stField1 = Me.Field1
Forms!frmInput.Field1 = stField1

That works fine, too, BUT the routine to detect if any of the fields are empty no longer works. If I populate the fields on frmInput using the data collected in the strings, and one of the required fields is not populated because there was no data in that field in the template it was collected from (The requirements came along later after a lot of records were entered without some of the required fields populated) then the record just gets saved anyway without the MsgBox popping up.

It seems that the action: Forms!frmInput.Field1 = stField1 makes Access\VB think there is data in the field, even when there is not (and No, there is not a space in there :)).

Any thought? Thanks Start Free Trial
