Forgot system password.

We have installed Oracle9i on a server.
We need to do some dba administration work, like
increasue database files, etc.
We have forgoten system password.
How can I reset of alter that password?
I have tried using svrmgr and that doesn't work.
I have gone into sqlplus with a know user and password
connect as sysdba it returns you disconnected.
Again how can I change.
