Inserting space in Visual Mode for Vim Editor

Hi, I would like to know how I can insert spaces in Visual Mode for the Vim Editor? Because normally I had to type <i> and then the <space> key, but I don't want to go to the Insert Mode to do that. Thanks.

But you can turn on Indent mode (:set indent)

For example, I can delete the characters by using the <x> key, so I don't have to <i> then use <delete>. Is there a way to do the same to insert spaces?

You could set up a macro, but I don't think that would be a good idea, as you'd get too used to it and have troubles using vi/vim on a different system.

Please note that vim works in either command mode or text insert mode. This means that when you touch / press a ket, vim will either take it as a command or a char to be inserted. So, as duncan_roe said, you have to be in insert mode.

This is not a candidate for deletion. The asker asked if there was any other way of doing what he wanted rather than doing it the way he was currently doing it, and received the answer that there was not. The asker may not like that answer, but it is correct.
Also as a matter of form, it was discourteous of the asker to request deletion when he had not responded to the last expert post.
