I would recommend doing a system repair with your windows CD (if you have it)

by: dmerz-lhPosted on 2008-07-10 at 06:37:30ID: 21973224

I will try that and see if it works. I had thought about that but want'ed another opion.

try to run sfc /scannow from the command prompt
or restore your system to the last checkpoint

by: SheharyaarSaahilPosted on 2008-07-10 at 06:44:19ID: 21973312

utidll.dll is not a valid windows system file
your system can be infected with malware or viruses

please scan your system with an updated version of your antivirus program
if you dont have an antivurs installed, get Avast Free Home Edition and scan the system with it
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

then download and install Superantispyware Free Home Version
http://www.superantispyware.com/

update it, and then scan the system under safemode

check the results, if you still have problems, download Hijackthis
http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

run it, scan and save a log file
please attach the log file with your next comment

I'm with Shehar on this one, that file is not legit.
A hijackthis log is a good starting point.

by: ron_riggiPosted on 2008-07-10 at 07:00:23ID: 21973460

i just assumed it was a type, due to the face that

the application or DLL C:\windows\system32\(n)dll.dll is not a valid windows image

Is a common problem

by: dmerz-lhPosted on 2008-07-10 at 07:52:15ID: 21973979

I am running the sypware scanner right now. I will attach the hijack log if this doesn't work.

by: ron_riggiPosted on 2008-07-10 at 08:01:15ID: 21974087

I do not believe your problem is associated with any spyware/malware. A simple Google search of UTIDLL.dll will not return any hits, but instead ask you if you meant UTILDLL.dll, which is a legit system file.

UTILDLL.dll = WinStation utility support DLL. It's a legit Microsoft file

While the scans won't hurt to do, I do not think they will fix your problem

by: dmerz-lhPosted on 2008-07-10 at 08:04:39ID: 21974132

As soon as the scans finish I will paste a copy of the error message here and let you look at it.

by: dmerz-lhPosted on 2008-07-10 at 09:44:54ID: 21975254

Just like you thought the spy ware scan didn't correct this problem. It did however find 264 tracking cookies which I removed.

  • task.gif
    • 5 KB

this is a copy of the error message

this is a copy of the error message

by: ron_riggiPosted on 2008-07-10 at 09:54:31ID: 21975370

Just as I suspected, you misspelled the error, it is UTILDLL.dll, not UTIDLL.dll, do a repair install with your windows disk, you won't lose any data, all it does is re-installs the system files

by: dmerz-lhPosted on 2008-07-10 at 10:32:10ID: 21975730

I ran the sfc and still no change in the error message

by: dmerz-lhPosted on 2008-07-10 at 12:04:14ID: 21976433

I was finally able to stop this from happening by removing the dll that is was complaining about. That fixed the problem. Thank you for your help

by: ron_riggiPosted on 2008-07-10 at 12:11:08ID: 21976479

I highly recommend running a system repair so it can replace your corrupted, or removed system files.
