I am trying to debug a C# application in VS2005 (.NET framework 2.X) and noticed very strange behavior: when I step through the code, instead of going from one line to the next, it jumps from one place in the code to a totally unrelated place in the code (often in a different module) and back, so it's really hard to tell where I am actually at at any given moment. Do you know why this is happening and how this can be fixed?

jask24, could you elaborate? I did notice that it seemed to jump to places in the code close to various breakpoints. So suppose I have a bunch of BPs all over the place and I am near one of them and want to step through the code from that BP. Are you saying that before I do that I have to delete all other BPs? Thanks.
The debugger jumps from one place to another because another thread running hits that break point.

the debugger will move from place to place in case of 2 reasons only
1. you are debugging a code and you press F10 and the line beneath is a function call and there is a break point in the function so it will jump to that breakpoint
2. the application you are trying to debug implements threading and in case of threaded application debugging is extremely difficult

Are you using Threds in your code? If you are then that could be the reason. My solution would be to remove the break point before you continue stepping forward.
