The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Installing the SWIG python bindings for subversion, trac

Asked by bored_shiva in Subversion, Python Scripting Language, Red Hat Linux

I have a Red Hat Enterprise 4 machine that I'm trying to install trac (http://trac.edgewall.org/) on, so I can use it to manage our code. Trac requires subversion, and apparently, due to the fact that trac is written in Python, it requires the SWIG python bindings for subversion to work. (Or it may be the SWIG subversion bindings for Python, none of this really means anything to me, I'm just quoting the error message)

The problem is that, no matter what I do, I can't figure out how to install the $@%#$ things. I tried installing the subversion-python package, which I thought would have the bindings pre-installed, but nada. I know I have SWIG installed, I know I have Python 2.5.2 installed. subversion works on it's own, and trac works on it's own, I just can't connect the two.

In addition,  I have no idea where subversion is actually located (I've been searching everywhere, but all I found was a Subversion "docs" directory) This is not my server, so I have no idea how it was configured, and not being a red-hat person, I can't even figure out how to find out. I also know next to nothing about subversion, as we've been using CVS until we decided to switch in order to use trac.

Please, please, make your responses as simple and dumbed-down as you can. I can follow directions pretty well, but you got to be specific. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on this for a week now, and I'm at my wit's end.
