Error 403 when committing back to Subversion

I am new to Subversion and I was able to check out a project; however, when I tried to commit my project back, I got this error message. I checked my access rights, and I have read/write access. the error message is:

Error: Server sent unexpected return value (403 Forbidden) in response to MKACTIVITY
