How do i open a EXE file to find out how to get around Activation

Asked by bignadad in Development Software, Security Software, Installation

i have an old program written in visual studio that requires a activation code. its just a basic application for a catalog program. when i open the exe file it ask to input activation code. i have tried to open in  PE explorer and dissassemble, but just could find what i was looking for.

the text box to input the code requires 9 digits. it also shows you 9 digits. so its comparing the 2 somewhere in a dll file or something like that right?

any direction anyone can give will be great. i have info stored in program that i need to view.
