The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Information on Networking and study materials - recommendations

Hello gang and as always thanks for your time and expertise.  My first question is what would you guys recommend in terms of magazines, online sites, or online material that I could subscribe to and recieve in e-mail updates like Tech-Republic, regarding Networking such as trends and general information that we all need.
My next question is what would you guys recommend for study materials regarding Networking - I guess in the MCSE context, although I'm not sure I'll take any more certs but just in case.  Is e-learning the way to go anymore?  I just want something that I can utilize at my leisure and continue to learn, and in a practical way so some interacitve and reading combo would be great.  I'd rather go to people like you that have the experience to get this information.  I'm working two jobs with a family so I'm kind of past all the certs, and I think certs are a huge money ploy for Microsoft anyway, but I know it's important to continue to learn.  I have a small lab at the house I use so I do the best I can, but I'm sure you guys know it doesn't get any easier to find time, or motivation, the older we get.  Anyway, your help is greatly appreciated on this fellas.

I personally use http://seeklearning.com/ for my online studying.
Have gotten A+, and first MCP (for MCSA) so far. Will sit another MS cert in a month. Well set out.

Have seen some really good videos from CBT also: http://www.cbtnuggets.com/
I really like the way CBT does it.

If you are working with Windows, you need to get a subscription to Windows IT Pro (http://www.windowsitpro.com).  You can usually get a free subscription, depending on your "industry involvement".  They give you the technical expertise that is missing in almost every other magazine.  The best part (in my opinion) is the section where other readers can submit tips and tricks.

There are others out there, like "Computerworld" (http://www.computerworld.com), "Networkworld" (http://www.networkworld.com), and "eWeek" (http://www.eweek.com).  Once you sign up for those, expect to get inundated with offers for other magazines.

Study Material - Are you trying to just learn to the test or do you want to actually learn how to do it?  If you are looking for training, SkillSoft offers their SkillPort site (http://www.skillport.com), which offers online training.  There is a cost invloved, though.

Personally, I would recommend locating a community college that will let you take a "personal enrichment" course (not for credit) that has hands-on labs.  They will cost you a couple of hundred dollars per class, but it would be less expensive than taking a class at a techical training center and would teach you more.

If you just want something to help you pass the exams, you can purchase study material from various companies and might even be able to find some for free.  Search for "IT Certification Study" and you will find quite a bit.

CramSession (http://www.cramsession.com), Transcender (http://www.transcender.com) and Trandumper (http://www.trandumper.com) are quite effective, but they are generally looked down upon because they don't teach you the subject, per se, but instead teach you the test.  However, go ahead and use them if you really did learn the subject material and just want to make sure that you pass the test so that you don't waste your $100-$150 bucks.
