The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

MS Great Plains + SQL Memory Requirements

Asked by Karma_AU in Great Plains Financial Software, Databases Miscellaneous, MS SQL Server

Experts,

We have a client who runs MS SQL Server 2000 and MS Great Plains. The server has 2 GB of memory and task manager shows there is 1/2 GB free most the time and yet perfmon shows the system calls on the page file when only a few users are in the system. They actually run 5 databases, with the 2 largest databases running in at 2 GB each and the other 3 totaling 1.5 GB. Over the last 18 month the database grew from 500mb to the 5.5 it is now. They are about to increase there usage again by 4 times (extreme growth) and I am planning on moving the databases to a dedicated SAS mirror and also wanted to increase the server memory. Do you think 4 GB is enough or would you put 8GB considering the size of the database? The server still has at least 2-3 years in it so I don't want to upgrade it again.

When the database was 500MB it used to take 7-10 seconds to load. Now the primary database is 2 GB it can Great Plains as much as 30-40 seconds to load.

Thanks
