Question

Create a new company in GP 9.0

Asked by: jaljahmi

I'm creating a new company in GP 9.0 using the GP utility. I would like to
use the setup from an existing company without retaining the transactions. I
can try to do a restore from an existing company but then I would have all
the data.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I would recommend trying the "Copy Company Setup" automated solution offerd by Microsoft.  Here is the description:

Copies all the setup information from one company to another in SQL. You can choose between what module information to send over to the new company. *Note: Due to the potential amount of time this operation takes to complete, it is advised to run this solution during off peak hours.

Here is the URL.  A CustomerSource / PartnerSource login is required.

Let me know if that helps or if you have any additional questions.

The automated solution suggested seem to work but I'm getting errors creating transaction(invoice, sales, etc..): Here is the error:
"the functional currency has not been defined for this company"  or " A functional currency does not exist for this company" Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi,

Sounds like you need to assign a functional currency.  Even if you don't use Multicurrency, a Functional currency is required for many operations in the newer versions of GP.

Under Tools -> Setup -> Financial -> Multicurrency, choose the same Functional Currency that is setup in your original company.

If you are using multicurrency in GP, you will want to ensure that all of the currency settings are setup the same in the new company.

Thanks,

Thanks Steve for the solutions.

I had tried setting up the Multicurrency but got the error "The functional currency can't be changed.". I tried a suggestion I found in
https://mbs.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/kbdisplay.aspx?wtntzsmnwukntmmyvtquuxnnzoukypppsookmupxmuylyvwz

which ask  to update MC40000 with currency ID from MC40000
                Update MC40000       set FUNLCURR = 'Z-US$', FUNCRIDX = 1007
I just tried to create a transaction and it worked....

Hi Jamal,

If you changed the functional currency, you will want to run the Multicurrency Check Links routine on the new database, just in case.

In theory, it should only update existing transactions that may have been entered, but there may be some other configuration settings it checks.

Good luck,

Steve

I ran the link and everything seems fine until I started doing a cash receipt in the new company then this error comes up:
""A get/Change operation on table on table 'RM_Customer_MSTR_SUM'" and "could not find a record"
