The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Great Plains/Dynamics - Vista Problem with Version 8 and Service Pack 3

Tags: Microsoft, Great Plains, 8.x, Vista
Installed Great Plains/Dynamics 8 and the Manufacturing Module, with Service Packs 1a, 2 and 3 on a brand-new VISTA machine.  Everything was successful.  This process updates Great Plains to version 8.00g44, and the Manufacturing module to 8.034SP3.  This shows up in the About screen when logged in to the VISTA machine as the system administrator.

However, when logged to the VISTA machine as a regular user, Great Plains tells me that the Manufacturing version is 8.027 and that an upgrade is needed.  Have tried reinstalling from scratch, and have tried adjusting user permissions but can't seem to make the message go away.  Service Pack 3 won't install over itself.  The About screen shows that 8.027SP2 for Manufacturing but the correct versions for everything else.

Looks like you have a double jepardy
if your logged in a standard user you really should consider making yourself the administrator perminently
since your problem is not running Great Plains/dynamics on Vista from the admin account but only from the standard user account.
>>> Have tried reinstalling from scratch, << in the standard user account?
Most software must be installed from the administrator account,
as it works there.
Solution be the administrator or:
A standard account can be run as an administrator

you might encounter some compatibility problems with different applications that have not yet been updated for the Windows Vista UAC component

Hope this helps you

It's not sensible to make every GP user a system administrator.  In case I wasn't clear, the user account with the problem is an administrator on the computer, but the problem goes away only when logged in as the system or domain administrator.  This seems to point to permission issue on the network.  But this does not happen under XP, and I have given the GP users full permission to all network folders that involve GP.

The GP client software was installed on the VISTA machine from the GP user account; there were no errors during installation, or at least no errors that appeared.

I will try changing compatibility mode on Monday and if that doesn't work, I'll try reinstalling from the system administrator account.  Thanks!

your welcome, makes me wonder why everyone updates to Vista we are just setting things back to as close to XP as we can, the new security features are very good but do require some learning to get around.
Like xp once we know the tricks you'll be happy. If the software companies would just get their act together updating their products to work with Vista progress would speed up.
Vista how to's
