The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot Open Any Company File

Asked by swolfersberger in Peachtree, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: , ,

I have Peachtree 2008 running with the database files on a brand new Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 server and the clients running on Windows XP SP2.  I've installed the server side as a data location only and the clients were installed after that.

These company files used to reside on an old NT4 server that was upgraded to 2k3 before this migration to new hardware.

The problem is that I cannot open any company files after the migration.  The client comes up and I select the company that I want to open.  The company name briefly appears in the title bar and then goes away.  Peachtree then returns me to the screen asking if I want to open an existing company or create a new one.

No error messages appear on screen and no error messages are logged on the client or the computer.

When I look in the Pervasive console on the server there are multiple entries created for the company that I'm trying to open (one for each time I tried to open the company), but all of them say "missing table entries" if I try to click on them.

I'm at wits end.  I've opened the file rights way up and no change.  I've reinstalled the client and the server and no change.  I even tried creating a new company and get the same issue after it runs through the wizard and actually tries to create the company files.

Any help is greatly appreciated.Start Free Trial
