I have a customer using Drake Software for tax preparation. They just purchased a networked Savin 2575 copier. I configured it for IP Port printing across the network and installed the PCL 6 driver from Ricoh's website.
When printing the tax forms, the printer does not duplex certain forms that are supposed to be duplexed. The same form duplexes just fine when sent to a networked HP 8150.
I've spent hours online with Drake support only to have them tell me that "certain forms are not supposed to be duplexed and will not print that way." That's strange considering the HP printer duplexes that form.
We're at wit's end here and are looking for any insight to the issue that you all can provide.
Is it possible that the software uses the printer's settings, rather than the driver settings for duplexing? In that case you would have to set the printer itself to duplex, from it's front panel or via its web interface.
You may want to try Ricoh's RPCS drivers. These drivers actually "look" at the copier and see everything installed.
Does the Drake software let you open the print options screen or does it take the settings that are put into the software and send them to the printer automatically? If that is the case and the RPCS drivers do not work, then you may need to set the default options for that printer to duplex (you could rename it Savin 2575 Duplex, so if other users/applications that don't need to be duplexed use it they don't automatically duplex).
If that doesn't work let me know what happens, I can probably help you (I used to work for a Ricoh dealer).
After some experimenting, here's what I've come up with:
1. The RPCS vs. Savin PCL 6 vs. PCL 5e drivers don't make a difference.
2. I have to set the printer driver to duplex or else nothing duplexes. The app has a duplex check box that doesn't seem to have an effect.
3. If the printer driver is NOT set to duplex, I get the following when I print forms: The Federal form prints a stack of single-sided sheets. The State form prints a stack of single-side but inserts a blank page between each page printed.
4. If the printer driver IS set to duplex: Federal forms print duplexed. State forms prints single-sided sheets with no blanks between.
My theory here is that the machine is actually doing what it's supposed to and the blanks are counted as the back of each form when duplexing is set.
However, when using the HP 8150 or 4000 series with their duplexers, the forms print both sides. There is no duplex on/off in the printer driver so the software is forcing the duplex in this case.
I think I might have to say that the Ricoh is correct.
I suppose that, if Drake tell you that "certain forms are not supposed to be duplexed and will not print that way", that implies the software does not tell the printer to duplex, and in fact does not mention duplexing at all in the print job. It may be that the Drake software does not even use the driver. Some software lets you select the driver, but effectively bypasses it and only uses it to send the job to the port. That would explain why the setting on the printer controls the job.
