Microsoft, Terminal Services, Windows 2003 R2 Standard, Used for Taxworks 2007 in a Tax Advisory Office
I am a consultant for a Tax Advisory Group and they use Taxworks 2007 via Terminal Services. The remote sites use Terminal Services to connect to Taxworks. Taxworks told me that they do not support Terminal Services with their product. The problem we are having is that for some reason between the hours of 12:00am to 6am-7am tax works will cease to work and when you click on the icon in the morning and try to login there is a program error and tax works wont open. What I do to fix this in uninstall .NET 2.0 sp1 and then reinstall .NET 2.0 sp1 and then Taxworks 2007 will continue to work throughout the day but once morning time comes we are back to the same problem until I reinstall .NET 2.0 sp1 again. Of course as you might see Taxworks was built on the .NET 2.0 platform.
The Taxworks support person had told me what fixed this for other users was to uninstall Taxworks 2007 and then uninstall .NET 2.0. After the uninstall then reinstall .NET 2.0 and then reinstall Taxworks 2007. This again works for one day and then goes back to the morning time and it ceases to work until .NET 2.0 w/sp1 is re-installed.
Do you guys have any ideas on how to resolve this? It seems to me either Taxworks is running some type of nightly process or other windows process is going on that will break .NET 2.0. This has become an ongoing problem and is costing us many hours of useless fixing. It seems as if Taxworks should have been developed for Terminal Services environments so that other offices like my client which have multiple offices and remote users would be able to use it in the fashion they want.
As an update this is the latest email I got from Taxwork Support:
"The issue is a WINDOWS error, it is because the terminal service does not keep .NET SP1 up and functional. TaxWorks does use the latest Dot net, that is why you are getting the message, is because Dot net 2.0 sp1 is not sticking. Please verify that all dot net dlls are not being removed by the terminal session. We do not test nor program TaxWorks, to run in a terminal service environment, we have seen cases where it works properly but our support is very limited, because we do not support it"
So far what I have done was the following to see if I can solve this problem: 1. Disabled Symantec Corp Anti-Virus 2. Disabled Automatic Updates 3. Disabled JAVA Updates 4. Disabled .NET Runtime Optimization Service v2.0.50727_X86 Service 5. Disabled all backups to this server.
I did all of the above just to see what might be cauing .NET 2.0 sp1 to break but none of the above fixed the issue.
Any info on guiding me as to what might be causing this issue would be very helpful.
