Question

QuickBooks Pro 2009 DataBase Server Manager Problem

Asked by: jforville

I get the following message in QuickBooks Server Manger on the Database Server tab:
"Unable to retrieve connected files and logged in user list."  We can see all the QuickBooks files on the first tab when we scan the directory.  We also have the drive selected under the scan drives tab.

Also, when we have the second user try to connect to the QuickBooks data file on the server, we get:
"Quickbooks was unable to ope the company file <file location> on the host computer <server name>.  Try opening the file with QuickBooks on the host computer or run the QuickBooks Database Server Manager on the host computer...
Error Codes (-6190, -816)"

We are running a Windows 2008 Server.  That is where the QuickBooks data file is located.  All the computers trying to access the server data file are using mapped drives.  The file was just converted from 2006 to 2008.  Any one workstation can access the file without a problem.

I have tried deleting the secondary QuickBooks files that get created and rebooting the server.  QuickBooks support was also of very little help so far.  The articles they sent me either did not address my issue or didn't work.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I asked Intuit if the Server Manager was supported on Windows Server 2008 and could not get a clear answer. I have that potential issue coming up, but it could be a few months off.

You need to have (or at least should have) the Ledger and its transaction log and associated files in the same folder and on the same server drive that Server Manager was installed in. You cannot install Server Manager in drive C: and keep the ledger on drive D:  Check that (although you probably already have done this).

Make sure your QB clients are not running in HOST mode (you can turn that mode off). This will not affect the ability of server manager to scan.

Finally, you need to use the Server Manager from QB 2009, not a prior version.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I will try the software on our 2003 Server tomorrow, to see if 2008 is the problem.  I tried moving the database files to the same directory where the QuickBooks program files reside -  Same problem.

QuickBooks is not running in Host mode on any of the computers and I only have 2009 Server Manager installed.

I spent a good deal of time on the phone with QuickBooks Support today.  I started the conversation with, "Is QuickBooks Pro 2009 Server Manger compatible with MS Windows Server 2008 x64."  They first said no, but they believe that the Premier Edition will work.  I would just need the license key to unlock it.  I explained that would make little sense, since it was the same code/application.  Then they told me that QuickBooks Enterprise is tested and will run under MS Windows Server 2008 X64.  I explained it was unreasonable to expect me to pay $2500 more to work around the problem, which they should fix.

They did not have any time frame for fixing the issue, but said it was being worked on. In the mean time, I have moved the data to a Windows 2003 Server OS.

I have the same issue and I'm just trying to use a winows xp machine with no antivirus at all on it.  Anyone have any ideas?  I connect with any one computer on the network just not multiple and the database server shows no files connected... yet it finds the file and says it's running.

Still no fix?  I have a similiar issue with QB 2010 but it's happening intermittently.  I hope there's a fix somewhere so I don't have to downgrade to 2003.  Anyone??

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem yet? Having the same problem and have opened firewall ports, added user security, done everything Quickbooks recommends and my DB manger finds the file but still says no files connected

by: asidlesPosted on 2011-04-03 at 18:39:23ID: 35311459

You will still get that error message on the server but by disabling the server firewall, giving full rights of the Quickbooks files to the user 'QBDataServiceUser1x', I've been able to enable multi user mode in a SBS 2011 environment.

Instead of disabling the firewall you can open the appropriate ports:
10180, 80, 8019, 56719, 55333, 55334, 55335, 55336

Also remove the Quickbooks program and data folders from real-time scanning within your AV program.

Any or all of thewse should resolve your problem.
