Do you use a server? Try rebooting the server
Can you rename the company file? ( That way you can verify that you have write access to the file, and nobody is using the file at the moment ).
Try to copy the file to an other folder. Can you open the file then?

I have hit this many times before. It is a corrupt data file. Intuit doesn't give you an easy way to fix it. They want to charge you a support incident to do so. It is virtual highway robbery.
There are several third pary repair solution but they are even more expensive then calling Intuit. Try Googling "Quickbooks Repair" and see what shows up.
You really only have three options. 1) Call Intuit and pay them. 2) Find a third party approach or 3) Restore from a recent backup.
None of them are really acceptable. You need to pick the lesser of the evil...
