The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How To Retrieve Quicken 2002 Data From Old Hard Drive

Tags: Intuit, Quicken, 2002, Windows XP Home
The Windows XP Home PC I was running Quicken 2002 on died: the motherboard overheated and became unusable but the hard drives are ok. I need to retrieve my Quicken 2002 data from the old C drive onto my new machine.

Here's what I've tried so far:

-  I tried the simplest thing first - taking the entire QUICKENW program folder from the old C drive and copying to the Program Files folder on the new machine.

- Quicken would not start, so I installed a fresh copy over the top using the original CD

- Started ok but assumed I was a new user so I had to fill out the personal profile info

- When I got to the main screen there was none of my data to be seen

- I copied the four QDATA files from the original C drive and put them into the new one

- On restarting Quicken some of my old data was there, but it's very old

- I again tried copying the entire original QUICKENW folder over the top of the new one

- On restarting it was still the very old data

Now, as I have the old C drive all still intact, I would assume (hopefully) that all my data is still there...somewhere - I would just like to know how to get at it.

I was wondering if there's anything buried in the original registry that needs to come across as well, and if that's the case I'm not entirely sure as to how to do it.

Any suggestions please (apart from the obvious 'Take more regular backups you idiot!')?

Many thanks,

Andrew

I realize this is for Quicken 2005, but I would assume it should still work for 2002. Slave your old harddrive onto your computer (probably already have if you are copying stuff from it), and follow this procedure for searching for Quicken files. It should find your old file.

Thanks for that, MotoCrazy. I've just tried what you suggested, but unfortunately in Quicken 2002 there's no "Find Quicken Files" option in the File menu.

Hmm... worth a shot =). Busy at work right now, but I will try to look for some other stuff as time permits.

Searcxh the old drives for Quicken, or Intuit. Look under the old My Documents....

That's worth a try - the hard drive is with the guy who's building my new PC at the moment, so I'll try that on Monday when I get it back. (I've been working off a backup of with QUICKENW folder I took from the drive on Friday.

Also look under Quickenw folder for Backup folders and check file dates on backup files. Quicken 2002 usually keeps 2 sets of backup files.

Another thing. Look under Program Files for an Intuit folder. Quicken 2002 may have used old files in Quickenw folder when installed and changed data file location.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a try tomorrow  :-)

Hi again everyone.

I got my drive back this morning and hooked it up to my new machine as an external drive.

I've looked around for the various folders and files mentioned but with no success. Any other ideas???

Last word on this one - after much trawling around I've still no solution to this one, so I'm calling it a day. I'd just like to say thanks for all the suggestions, guys - they were much appreciated.
