Question

Avast On-Access Scanner Messages

Asked by: SpecialProjects

I recently installed Avast Anti-Virus on one of my home pc's.  When this program runs, it constantly displays a scrolling log, which is very distracting. I would love to figure out how to turn this off.  I did locate another user who was having the same problem and was able to turn this log off by going into custimize and uncheck details.  I have looked everywhere to find this setting with no luck.  The version that I have does not have a screen to "customize".  There are numerous settings, just not sure which one belongs to this scrolling message.

Have you looked at the AVAST forum yet?
Check out this thread: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=1%3Baction=display%3Bthreadid=2038

I replaced my AVAST systems with AVG a few months ago, so I can't personally check to see if this is right.

I didn't follow the link to the other forum but I do know how to stop it.

Right click the blue A in the systray, select the "On-Access Protection Control" should be the top one, select Details so you can see more options, scroll down to Standard Shield, select it in the left, hit the Customize button on the right, go to the Advanced tab and uncheck
"Show Detailed Info on performed action."

You might want to check any of the other Shields->Customize->Advanced tabs as well while you are there to make sure they aren't bothering you.

Good luck.

Vic, you got it.  I just read the link.

mtz1of4 -
np ... based on the total number of 'problems' in this zone, I might be switching back to AVAST anyway.

Thanks for your help and I'm sorry I did not get back here to accept solutions earlier.  I was able to figure out my problem within a few minutes of posting questions...murphy's law, as soon as I post, I figure it out.

Thanks to all who took their time to help me figure this out.

SpecialProjects,
You really do need to read through the Help Page section about "Questions".

I realize that this is the first question you have asked, but two different volunteers tried to help you - and you completely ignored us for two weeks, then you re-appear and post that you found your own solution.

If you bother to check out our Profiles, you will see that both mtz1of4 and I are doing this for fun - and to learn a few things ourselves.

As a question "Asker", you need to stay active in any question you start.
You also need to post your own solution when you find it.

Then you can 'Accept' your own comment as the solution and it will be saved into the EE database.

Please post your own solution and start the 'Self-Close' process.

by: SpecialProjectsPosted on 2008-04-11 at 12:54:29ID: 21337626

Sorry there fella.  I did click the "Accept as Solution" the last time and then was presented with a comment box, which I left a comment.  You refer to 'Self-Close' process, well I don't happen to see any 'Self-Close' option on this page.

I do as well 'work for fun', so I don't really have time to figure out where this option is.  Maybe you could be kind enough to close this question and then I'll ask the next question elsewhere.

Objection.
This question has already been listed in CS and the Asker was already told that his question was answered - and that he should award points.

Give the points to mtz1of4, because I sure don't want them.

After taking this up with the moderator and now cancelling my subscription due to the hastiness of younghr, I have finialy worked myself to where the points are applied.  The majority of the points went to younghr, and not because I accepted his/her answer.  As stated, I found my answer shortly after posting, but because he/she seems to want.  For what, is unapparent.  Thank you mtz1of4 again, for your time, may you go far.  As stated to the moderator, I'm not here for points, awards, metal, or otherwise.  Just a question from a mother and veteran, like younghr, seeking an answer without haste.  I am now cancelling my subscription and will see to it that the other 9 accounts are cancelled next week.

SpecialProjects,
I can't post in your "Community Support" post, but I would like you to know that you have misunderstood me about as completely as anyone could.

My comments at http:#a21297933 still seem rather innocuous - even after reading your complaint (and your "Accept" comments).

I took the time to check that you were a first time user and was trying to impart some basic information (and expectations) about how this site works - and I also gave you specific information about how to post your own solution and have that saved into the database.

My comments could be called direct or matter-of-fact, but rudeness was never any part of it.

I don't make it a habit to post 'hyper-links' and pretend that they are answers. In fact, there is special name for the Experts around here who do that.

Very often, the first 2-3 comments from the Experts are simply 'leader' comments trying to gather more information from the Asker.

It is doubly unfortunate that you read my comments the way you did. The 'new member' part pales in comparison to the fact that you are a Veteran.

Regards,
younghv
