The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

McAfee ePO questions

Asked by bruce_77 in McAfee Anti-Virus Software

Hi

I have a few McAfee (ePO 3.6, VirusScan 8.5i) questions that I was hoping someone could help me with;

Let's say I have the following scenario;

3 sites, one of which is HQ.

The ePO Server is in HQ on 192.168.1.1
The other two sites also have McAfee Package servers on 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.3.1.

All clients are on completely different subnets. I would like to set McAfee up so that the clients initially contact the Package servers in their local site for updates, and failing this, contact the ePO server at HQ. All policies are set at the ePO level.

How would the McAfee clients know how to speak to the ePO server at HQ? They couldn't send out a broadcast to locate the ePO server, since the ePO server and clients are in different subnets. Would this be something that would be configured in the ePO Agent that we rolled out to the clients?

So, we could configure the ePO Agent with the IP of the ePO server and the various McAfee Package servers. And we could configure as such;

Once installed, the ePO Agent on the clients tries to locate the closest (in terms of hops/bandwidth) Package Server and tries to download the latest DATs. It then keeps a record of this particular Package Server as the one to pull downloads from.
It also connects to the ePO Server at HQ to find out what policies it should utilise (e.g. virus scanning exclusions etc).

Is this possible?

Secondly, if my ePO Server was running ePO 4.0...is there any problem with clients with ePO 3.6 connecting to it?

Hope someone can help?
