Morning

First things first....

Make sure that the ePO repository is up to date and all the clients are up to date as well

Run a network wide scan and if anything is found, then reboot the machines in question in to safe mode and then run the scans again in safe mode

Let me know EXACTLY what is found

Cheers
Si

After disabling buffer overflow option in Mcafee , this pop up dissapears. We are also affected by new malware.iu..Can you please advise, any solution for these

by: legalsrlPosted on 2008-11-26 at 02:32:46ID: 23040879

Firstly, turn the Buffer Overflow option back on as you have just turned off the protection and the malware is attacking your system

You need to run a full scan as I said above and then let me know what it finds

Thanks
Si

Was there ever any additional follow up to this request? I am seeing "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe:KERNEL32.LoadLibraryA" Detected as "BO:Writable BO:Stack" Blocked by Buffer Overflow Protection on our Windows XP workstations. Even though the McAfee Engine is stopping the attack it does not tell where it originated from or how it got inside the LAN. Any information that would point me in a direction would be appreciated.

Thanks
SkylarB

Not that I'm aware of, the asker hasn't come back to me with any information

What does ePO say in the entries in the logs ?

Cheers
Si

I am not sure what specifics you mean by ePO entries in the logs.
I have found Event ID 1093 in the McAfee Event Logs that started this morning and kept recurring on 16 different Windows XP workstations. The log does not tell me the source only that the Event ID occurred and that the Virus was blocked by McAfee. The Threat Severity is 2 and the Threat name is _ (no name just an Underscore character). I talked to McAfee after hanging on the phone for 47 minutes and they said it was 99.9% certain that all of the machines that are being affected went to the same website. At this point I am delete all Internet Temp files, Cookies, and Form Data to see if that makes any difference.

Any thoughts from you would be appreciated.

i got a solution that manually installing Microsoft MS08-067 patch , should solve the problem. It did in some cases..But in some it still comes back

by: legalsrlPosted on 2008-12-10 at 04:34:57ID: 23138224

The Buffer Overflow attack is where there is a known exploit in a piece of Microsoft code and the virus exploits the hole in the code

A patch will fix it eventually, but in the Meantime McAfee is protecting against the Buffer Overflow

if you turn off Buffer Overflow protection, then the malware will be allowed to execute on all of the infected workstations.

You need to run a network wide scan and tell me what is found

Thanks
Simon
