Chkdsk is stuck at 47% stage 5

Hi

i ran chkdks -- from tools on the drive -- it has been stuck on 47% complete in stage 5 --
Any way i can get this to complet??

I could remove the drive and run chkdsk as a external -- or reboot and cancel chkdsk and run system restore ?  those were my thought -- I would appreciate any help

Looks like stage 5 is when it veriftys the free space . You could try what you suggested but what is you try it in safe mode or just booting to the recovery console and running it ?

independencetech--How long have you waited before declaring it stuck?  It can take many minutes depending on the size of the free space

Note the suggestion to run Event Viewer if possible

Event Viewer (Start|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer). Click on "System" in the left panel. Do you see RedBall error icon(s) timestamped at the exact time the problem occurred?   If so, click on the RedBall. The first message will have some data on what the problem is, but usually it is not too easy to understand. Click the blue go.microsoft.com link.  On the next window click the link to send a report to Microsoft.    Another window should open (though it may take some time for the information in the right panel to appear) which may offer some more understandable info and maybe even a solution.
