The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Wacky Norton Fun

Asked by Dean Peterson in Anti-Virus Applications

Tags: 2002, cannot

Running 98SE, had Norton Clean Sweep 2001 and Norton Anti Virus 2001. Got Systemworks 2002 Pro, and when I went to install it told me to uninstall the two 2001 programs. Clean Sweep went quietly into the night, but when I went to uninstall Anti Virus 2001 I got a message that the installation log file was corrupt, and the uninstall could not take place. Went to Norton's website, where this actual problem was mentioned on their support section. One solution listed was to delete the file, do a fresh install of Anti Virus, then uninstall. This did not work. A more detailed solution involved going into Safe Mode, removing all traces of Norton, deleting all windows temp files. This still did not work. I still get the message that the installation log is corrupt and the program cannot be uninstalled. Meanwhile the balance of Systemworks installed, and seems to work, but now I am without virus protection. This also raises the broader question of what to do about uninstalling any program when the installation log is corrupt or missing. I still have programs that are long gone from my machine which appear on the Add/Remove Software screen, for the same reason. But my main concern right now is fixing the problem with the Anti Virus. I need to uninstall 2001 so I can install 2002.
