The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. How can I get rid of Trojan Horse virus

I have a friend that has the Trojan Horse virus on her computer.  She has avg antivirus and it says there is a Trojan horse virus in c/windows/system32/aupdate.exe....She has WinXP.
Is there any way to get rid of it?  Can she get an antivirus program to clean it up or will it take more than that?
I am posting this for 500 points if I get a solution that will fix it.  If there is no solution than I still feel obligated to give 125 points for the best comment.
