How can I get rid of Trojan Horse virus

I have a friend that has the Trojan Horse virus on her computer.  She has avg antivirus and it says there is a Trojan horse virus in c/windows/system32/aupdate.exe....She has WinXP.
Is there any way to get rid of it?  Can she get an antivirus program to clean it up or will it take more than that?
I am posting this for 500 points if I get a solution that will fix it.  If there is no solution than I still feel obligated to give 125 points for the best comment.
