Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. malware My Daily Horoscope and more

My problem is in part identical to that addressed in the following "solution":

Solution Title: Infected by Horoscope and other Software
asked by monacoassociates on 09/24/2004 07:12AM PDT  

Plus I have many more symptoms.  The solution offered for the above problem was not helpful for me.  I've ascertained from other forums that most of the anti-malware programs (like Adaware and Spybot) do not detect this malware.

What I need is a solution that addresses this specific malware: My Daily Horoscope and other associated programs.

Here is a list of my symptoms:

*When I use IE, there is an extra toolbar called "Begin2Search" that I cannot get rid of.
*when I use Internet Explorer, 10+ pop-ups slow the browser to a crawl; virtually unusable (I am now using Opera browser instead)
*when I use IE, useless programs automatically download and install themselves on my desktop
*I can remove, delete, or uninstall the programs, but they always return after computer setup.
*After startup, I find some 20 or so extra programs running, slowing down processor speed.  Among these is the program "My Daily Horoscope."
*When I use Microsoft Word, it tries to re-install MS Word, says it cannot find the CD, but in the end opens anyway.  Ultimately, I can use MS Word no problem, but the intervening messages are very irritating.
*When I close a program in MS Word, it always asks me if I want to save the file Normal.doc, which I cannot because it is read only.  Again, very irritating.

Although these symptoms seem broad, I am sure they are connected because they all started happening at exactly the same time.

Can anyone help me?  I've surfed all over the internet (best as a beginner can manage, at least) and have not been able to find any hint of solution.

Please help!

P.S.  I have the latest HijackThis.
