rpggamergirl is right. You mentioned that you have the Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. This seems to be a common problem with the keyboard on that model. Try cleaning the keyboard with a can of compressed air first. If that doesn't work, contact Toshiba about this. If the laptop is under any kind of warranty they should replace it. Plugging in an external keyboard is a workaround but not a fix.

What have you tried?
Have you tried replacing the keyboard? the mouse? people with the same issue seemed to be caused by hardware problem with either the mouse, keyboard, etc.
