Lots of programs show up in System Information / Startup in Windows XP after Norton Antivirus uninstall

After uninstalling Norton Antivirus on two different PC's I noticed that lots of programs now show up in the application Accessories / System Tools / System Information  under Software Environment / Startup Programs.

This issue is similar to another reported here:

This particular screen normally only shows a few entries about programs started up when a user logs on.  Now, it reports hundreds of programs.  I have copied some of this output below.  

I did download the program AutoRuns referenced the solution listed above.  It appears to be 'normal' and does not show all of this extra 'stuff'.  

The PC is otherwise working correctly.  This is not a virus issue (scanned many times) but occurred directly after uninstalling Norton Antivirus 2007.
