Hi All
Apologies for what maybe basic questions, but I've been handed over McAfee without much knowledge of it prior to this, and we seem to have nothing in the way of relevant documentation, hence i thought I'd ask the experts!
We are using McAfee ePO 3.6.1 along with VSE 8.5i. Within EPO, there are about 5 main containers set up (to match the geography), with these having sometimes having sub-containers.
There is a task for all clients to check for updates from the main server every hour. Polices affecting everything were put in place by previous people. My team is responsible for clients within one of the five containers I mentioned above, and I don't want to make changes to the other four.
A couple of questions -
a) If I wish to make changes to the McAfee client on a workstation, I can't since the options are greyed out. The ability to unlock the user interface requires a password which we don't know. If I click on my container (UK) > policies >VSE 8.5 > User Interface policies, the policy is inherited from the Directory. I'd like to create a policy that will affect UK only, am I correct in thinking that I just go to;
Edit > New Policy > Duplicate [existing policy] > Apply [when I duplicate the existing policy, I will change the password] and make sure that 'inherit from' is unticked
Just want to be sure this won't affect the existing policy applied to the other containers and is the best way to change the User Interface password
b) If I go to any policy, at the top it states; "Settings for Workstation" which I can change to "Settings for Server" if I change the drop down. Am I correct in assuming that this will affect either the workstations or servers to which the policy is applied, and McAfee is intelligent enough to differentiate between the different OS platforms?
c) Going back to the User Interface lock. If I wanted to change the password for just one client within a container, what's the best way to do this? Click on the client > Policies > VSE > User Interface Policies and then create a new policy?
d) How can I set a policy to not be inherited?
My biggest fear at the moment is making a change to a policy and then finding out it has affected the other containers!
Also, is it best practice to have seperate policies for workstations/ servers ,or use the same policy but make a differentiation within the 'settings for workstations/server' as mentioned above?
Again, apologies for the questions and I hope someone can help. I did receive some excellent help in my previous question from Vic and Si, but wanted to create a new question rather than keep adding questions to the original...
Thanks again!
